Many European countries have engaged in austerity. Austerity can actually make it MORE difficult to get deficits under control. Greece, Portugal, Ireland, and Spain have been the leaders of this effort since 2009.

Where did the 2012 deficit come from? We have the answers. 

Talk about fiscal irresponsibility: Big oil is clinging to huge cash reserves and bringing in record profits, but still fighting to keep tax breaks we could be using to pay down the deficit.
